New York, 13 February 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Goldman Sachs has confirmed that its top lawyer, Kathryn Ruemmler, has resigned following revelations that her ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were closer than previously known.

The US bank confirmed to the Financial Times and the New York Times on Thursday that Ruemmler will officially step down on June 30.

The 54-year-old, a former federal prosecutor and White House counsel under former president Barack Obama, has served as Goldman Sachs' chief legal officer since 2021.

The disclosure comes after the release of a large volume of Epstein-related documents, which showed Ruemmler received expensive gifts from Epstein and advised him on media matters while she was practicing law.

Handwritten FBI notes included in the files indicate that Ruemmler was among those who Epstein contacted immediately following his arrest in 2019, according to the Wall Street Journal. Epstein later died in his New York jail cell.

Ruemmler's spokeswoman said she had only a professional relationship with Epstein and was unaware of his crimes. Goldman Sachs had previously dismissed suggestions that the revelations could affect her position at the bank.
