Teona Strugar Mitevska’s ‘Mother’ to open Venice Film Festival’s Orizzonti competition 

Skopje, 27 August 2025 (MIA) - Teona Strugar Mitevska’s film “Mother” is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival, opening the Festival’s Orizzonti competition on Wednesday.

In a press release, the North Macedonia Film Agency said “Mother” is inspired by the life of Mother Teresa, depicting Kolkata in 1948, at a time when she makes the key decision to leave her convent and dedicate her life to the poor.

The film is co-produced by North Macedonia, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It features internationally renowned actresses Noomi Rapace and Sylvia Hoeks in the leading roles, alongside Nikola Ristanovski, Labina Mitevska, and others.

The film will have its official premiere at the Venice Film Festival at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, in Sala Darsena.
