Taravari: Holding of snap elections depends solely on VMRO-DPMNE

Gostivar, 7 May 2025 (MIA) - Health Minister Arben Taravari, who leads one of the Alliance for Albanians (AA) party wings, told journalists Wednesday AA is not interested in snap elections in autumn, but the party would be ready for them if they are called.

“Whether parliamentary elections will be held depends solely on VMRO-DPMNE. If that is what they decide, then we will have to do it. I think we should first have local elections and then snap parliamentary elections next year. However, if we find ourselves in a situation where we have double elections, then we will prepare and do our best to ensure good results,” Taravari told journalists.

Regarding his discussions with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Taravari said they passed in a constructive atmosphere, noting that a decision has not yet been made whether they will leave the Government.

“We can’t sit on two chairs. Two days ago I had a constructive discussion with Prime Minister Mickoski, he said what he thinks, and I said what I think, and we decided to continue our discussions,” Taravari underscored.

According to the Minister, AA’s potential departure from the ruling coalition would not have a significant effect on the Government’s stability.

“There can’t be a parliamentary crisis because the numbers are there. Even without us, they have 73 MPs which is a majority. We could also see some MP from the European Front joining the Government, so I think our departure wouldn’t be an issue for the Government’s functioning. Causing a political crisis is not our intention,” Taravari said.

The AA leader ruled out any potential negotiations with the VLEN coalition, stressing that his party remains focused on the local elections.
