Skopje, 11 August 2025 (MIA) – The National Bank proposes that citizens be granted the right to four free ATM withdrawals per month from other banks, with a limit of Mden 2,000 per transaction. According to Governor Trajko Slaveski, the goal is to ensure cash accessibility for all citizens, regardless of which bank holds their account. The measure is expected to come into effect at the beginning of 2026.
“Cash will continue to be used by the majority of citizens, albeit to a lesser extent. It is advisable to keep cash at home for basic needs for at least a few days to a week," the Governor stated on the social media platform X, adding that supporters of cash highlight its anonymity and freedom, which, according to him, is a view that should be respected.
Slaveski also noted that ATM coverage throughout the country is uneven, promoting plans to establish a national ATM network. This network will build upon the current banking infrastructure, with a focus on upgrading and optimizing it for the benefit of citizens and banks alike.
The national ATM network is planned to be launched by the end of 2026.
