Slaveski: Country's three largest banks announce reduction of payment service fees

Skopje, 28 July 2025 (MIA) - National Bank Governor Trajko Slaveski said the country's three largest banks will soon publish new list of charges with reduced payment service fees. In an interview with TV 24's 'Triling' show, he expressed expectation that other banks will follow this example.

This comes following the dialogue that the National Bank has been conducting with the banking sector to improve citizens' access to more efficient and affordable services.

"Our intervention in the Macedonian Interbank Payment System - MIPS has freed up a significant amount of funds for banks, reducing their operating costs. This has created space for transferring some of those savings to customers, through reduced fees – something we are already seeing as a result," Governor Slaveski told the 'Triling' show.

He pointed out that the National Bank, though a regulator, maintains a steady dialogue with the banking sector and acts as a partner in order to promote services and increase customer satisfaction.

"We are in discussion with banks to take a step further - towards a reasonable and socially responsible tariff policy. This is not only in the interest of clients, but also of banks, which strengthen their own reputation through such moves, as well as public trust" said Slaveski.

He added that he expects other banks to soon follow the example of the three largest banks in the country.

"The National Bank will continue its commitment to creating a regulatory framework that will encourage the development of quality and efficient financial services available to all citizens and companies in the country," the central bank said.
