Skopje oncologist pleads guilty in clinical negliogence case

Skopje, 5 September 2025 (MIA) – The oncologist Meri Peshevska, who works at the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology in Skopje, pleaded guilty before the Skopje Criminal Court.

Peshevska told the court that involving the treatment of seven patients she was charged with, she wasn’t sure if she had continued the therapy because, as she stated, her stamp, at the time, was located at the counter and she had allowed it to be there so that the patients didn’t have to wait.

“I, with all the responsibility, confirm that I had left my system password and stamp at the counter to be used by interns. I fully admit the guilt,” said Peshevska.

Four oncologists, including Peshevska and Nikola Vasev, former oncology hospital director, are charged with clinical negligence.

Peshevska will be tried in a separate trial, scheduled on September 17.

Earlier in court, former oncology hospital director Vasev pleaded not guilty.

“No, absolutely not,” Vasev responded when asked whether he felt guilty for the charges against him.

The defendants also include the oncologists Simonida Crvenkova and Dragan Jakimovski.

The prosecution charged the doctors with “severe crimes against public health” and “clinical negligence” after 29 patients had received inadequate therapies without their health situation being assessed.

In addition, Vasev and the oncology clinic’s former economic director are charged with abuse of office accused of damaging the state budget by 2.2 billion denars.
