Six dead in Jerusalem shooting - two suspects killed

Jerusalem, 8 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) - At least six people were killed in a shooting attack at a bus stop in Jerusalem on Monday, according to paramedics.

The victims were five men and one woman, according to the hospital and paramedics.

The Israeli emergency medical service Magen David Adom reported that four victims were pronounced dead at the scene in north Jerusalem, while one man and the woman died of their injuries later in hospital.

Twelve other wounded people were taken to hospital, seven of them with serious injuries.

Police said that "two terrorists arrived by vehicle at the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem and opened fire toward a bus stop."

"A security officer and a civilian at the scene responded immediately, returned fire, and neutralized the attackers."

The Zaka rescue service confirmed that the suspected Palestinian attackers had been killed.

'Absolute evil'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security consultation after the attack and visited the site of the attack.

Security forces are on the hunt for anyone suspected of having helped the attackers, Netanyahu said.

The places where the perpetrators came from were being surrounded, he said: "We will reach everyone who helped them and sent them out."

"We are at war, in an intense war against terror on several fronts," he said.

"This shocking attack reminds us once again that we are fighting absolute evil," Israeli President Isaac Herzog said in a post on X. "The world must understand what we are up against, and that terror will never defeat us."

In recent months, the Israeli army has cracked down on militant Palestinians in numerous raids, particularly in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. There have been repeated deaths and arrests.

'Riddled with holes'

A security guard from a bus station near the site of the shooting told Israeli TV channel Channel 13 that the two armed men had entered a bus at an intersection and then shots had been fired. He said the bus was "riddled with holes."

One of the attackers was also carrying a knife, he said.

"The deputy commissioner of Israel Police is at the scene. Large police forces, under the command of the district commander, are securing the area," the police said. "Police bomb disposal units are ensuring the area is safe, while forensic teams are gathering evidence."

According to eyewitnesses, military roadblocks stopping traffic were put in place between Jerusalem and Ramallah in the occupied West Bank after the attack.

The situation in the Middle East has been extremely tense since the start of the Gaza War almost two years ago, and there have been repeated attacks by Palestinians on Israelis in that time.

The war has left the Palestinian coastal territory largely in ruins, and tens of thousands of Gazans dead.

The war was triggered by the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack by Palestinian militants on southern Israeli communities, which killed some 1,200 people.
