Siljanovska Davkova holds farewell meeting with outgoing Greek Ambassador Philippidou

Skopje, 18 July 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova held a farewell meeting with the outgoing Greek Ambassador Sophia Philippidou at the Villa Biljana in Ohrid on Saturday.

Reaffirming the position that regional cooperation is particularly important for smaller countries, Siljanovska Davkova said she expects Greece to be among the strongest supporters on the Macedonian EU integration path.

"In my opinion, the accession of both the country and the entire region to the Union will effectively close the existing geostrategic gap, achieving multiple effects across Southeast Europe, from trade and investments to energy connectivity. Regarding Macedonian-Greek relations, the Ambassador and I believe that a new impetus is needed to deepen and expand them in several areas," the President posted on Facebook.

For me, Siljanovska Davkova adds, culture is the best litmus test for Macedonian-Greek relations.

"The joint performance of the monumental work Carmina Burana by the Macedonian, Bulgarian and Greek Philharmonic Orchestras in June this year, as well as the performance of The Myth of the Amazons as part of the Ohrid Summer Festival, stands as proof of this," the President noted.
