Skopje, 13 October 2025 (MIA) - SDSM’s candidate for Skopje mayor, Kaja Shukova, announced on Monday a green quay, modern cycling routes and safe public spaces in Gjorche Petrov Municipality. 

"The quay in Gjorche Petrov was supposed to be a symbol of urban greenery and active life. Gjorche Petrov residents deserve much more than mud, thorns and false promises. Do you remember what they promised? A green sports quay, 40 kilometres of cycling routes and eco corridors. And what did the residents get, neither sports nor greenery, only neglected space and yet another disappointment. Gjorche Petrov is an abandoned municipality, as if it were not part of Skopje," Shukova said in Monday's statement to the media. 

She pointed to the specific stretch from Vlae to Hrom, only one and a half kilometres long, noting that it is a true picture of VMRO-DPMNE's inaction and ignoring of the basic needs of citizens. According to her, this is not only an urbanistic, but also a political failure, a symbol of a dysfunctional city.

Shukova announced project plans to completely arrange this area. According to her, it will feature a modern, safe and green pedestrian and bicycle path that will become part of a continuous, urban connection between Gjorche Petrov, Karposh, Centar, Aerodrom and Gazi Baba, a real green axis through the heart of the city.

"The focus is on creating a space that serves not only transit traffic, but life. The solutions include a landscaped riverbed, greenery, public spaces accessible to all generations, and a new urban pulse that restores citizens' trust in the possibility of a well-ordered, functional, and healthy city," she said. 

Shukova added that Gjorche Petrov will not be treated as a periphery but a point from which real connection begins.

"We have a plan, we have a solution, we know how. No more empty promises, this is the beginning of a new, connected, green and vibrant Skopje," said SDSM's Skopje mayor candidate Kaja Shukova.
