Session of Parliament's committee overseeing NSA and IA postponed

Session of Parliament's committee overseeing NSA and IA postponed

Skopje, 5 September 2025 (MIA) - The session of the Committee on Oversight of the Work of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Intelligence Agency (IA) regarding the allegations of unlawful wiretapping by the NSA in the period between 2019 and 2024 has been postponed.

The Parliament has not provided any details about the reason for the session's postponement.

Yesterday, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi scheduled the session that was set to be chaired by SDSM MP Slavjanka Petrovska.

Gashi’s decision to schedule the session came after VMRO-DPMNE MP and Committee member Ljupcho Prendzov publicly called on the Committee’s chair, European Front MP Skender Rexhepi, to schedule an urgent session. Rexhepi refused to do so, noting he would not call a session while he is “discriminated against” by not being issued a security certificate.

The NSA has said that agency employees conducted surveillance operations of the incumbent PM and then-opposition leader, as well as journalists and businessmen. Earlier this week, Mickoski and NSA director Bojan Hristovski confirmed the reports but failed to produce details, saying these are classified documents, while expecting that the case would be prosecuted and those at fault would be held accountable.

The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Corruption said later that it has opened a pre-investigative procedure after receiving the NSA reports.
