Skopje, 30 January 2026 (MIA) - SDSM’s parliamentary group put forward on Friday amendments to the Law on Minimum Wage that would raise the country's minimum wage to Mden 36.960 or EUR 600.
In their clarification of the amendments, SDSM’s MPs said a continued growth of inflation has been registered in 2025, resulting in a significant increase in living costs, especially concerning basic food products, energy resources, communal services, and healthcare expenses.
“The price hikes on food and basic products, as well as the rising prices of electricity, heating, and services, are reducing the workers’ purchasing power, especially for those earning the minimum wage. This particularly affects the most vulnerable categories of workers, for whom the mimimum wage is the sole or dominant source of income,” SDSM stressed.
The party noted that unions have continuously pointed to the need for a further increase of the minimum wage in order to mitigate the effects inflation, ensure a dignified living standard, and raise the social security of workers and their families.
“SDSM is on the side of the workers. We expect the support of all parliamentary parties. Let’s secure a dignified wage for the workers. It’s time,” the opposition party said.
