Saveski: Confident that public expectations will be met, the interests of political parties not in my interest

Skopje, 19 March 2026 (MIA) – The new state chief public prosecutor was sworn in Thursday in Parliament. Speaking to members of the media, Nenad Saveski said he will work in line with the Constitution, the laws, ratified international documents and international standards.

“It is a huge responsibility and I want to urge all public prosecutors, even while I’m speaking to you, to do their job. Their work neither starts nor ends with me. All public prosecutors have legal obligation to process ongoing cases. I know the composition of prosecutors and I believe in them. I’m confident that together we will meet the expectations of the citizens as we, the public prosecutors, work in their name and in the name of the Constitution and the laws,” stated Saveski thanking the government for nominating him and the MPs for electing him.

The new state chief public prosecutor said he expected wider support. The interests of the political parties are not in my interest “neither yesterday, today, nor in the future.”

On Wednesday, 66 MPs voted in favor of Saveski as the new state chief public prosecutor, two voted against and eight abstained.

Saveski will be the ninth state chief prosecutor in Macedonia since declaring independence in 1991 and the 19th since 1945. His election comes after the resignation of former state prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski.

The chief public prosecutor has a six-year term and has the right to be re-elected.
