Ristovski: Cooperation needed in Balkans to turn potential into success

Skopje, 10 September 2025 (MIA) – Minister of Sports Borko Ristovski in his opening remarks at Wednesday's Regional Sport Summit Skopje 2025 called for greater regional cooperation between sports stakeholders in the countries in the region.

"The Balkans have talent, the Balkans have energy, but to turn such potential into success we need cooperation. We are not here to compete with words, but to join forces in action. This summit should be the beginning of a new era of sports cooperation in the Balkans, an era of sports diplomacy, mutual respect and regional development through common goals. Sport is the future, and we are creating the future together now. We believe that today's discussions will bring new partnerships, new ideas and a vision to guide us in the years to come," said Ristovski.

Our mission, he stressed, is to build a sport that is fair, accessible and inspiring for young people to believe that the future is in their hands, for companies to see value in support, and for countries to recognize that sport is a bridge for mutual understanding and cooperation.

Skopje is hosting on Wednesday the first-of-its-kind Regional Sport Summit, taking place under the theme "Sports as а Symbol of National Identity and a Path for the Future".

Serbian Minister of Sports Zoran Gajić, Montenegrin Minister of Sports Dragoslav Šćekić, among others, are also attending the summit.
