Reports: US prosecutor involved in Epstein and Diddy cases dismissed

Washington, 17 July 2025 (dpa/MIA) - US federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, who was involved in high-profile investigations into Jeffrey Epstein and Sean "Diddy" Combs, has been dismissed from her position, US media reported on Wednesday.

The reason for her dismissal was not immediately clear, according to online outlet Politico and US newspaper The New York Times.

Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, had worked on the federal cases against Epstein, a convicted sex offender, and music mogul Combs, who earlier this month was found guilty on two prostitution-related charges.

James Comey was fired in 2017 by US President Donald Trump during the FBI's investigation into alleged links between Moscow and members of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign team.

Epstein died in 2019 in a New York prison cell in what was officially labelled a suicide. Especially in right-wing circles of US society, Epstein's death led to wild speculation despite official findings, because the financier had excellent contacts in US high society.

Last week, the FBI reaffirmed Epstein's death was suicide and said no evidence implicated other high-profile individuals or pointed to a "list" of powerful clients. The statement drew backlash.
