Skopje, 16 September 2025 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received Tuesday the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden, Ola Sohlström.
According to the press release from her Office, the President underscored that the two countries are bound by traditional and sincere friendship and since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1993, they have continuously built a partnership. She noted that this closeness and trust gained an additional dimension this year through the solidarity and assistance Sweden provided after the tragedy I Kochani, for which she expressed gratitude on behalf of all Macedonian citizens.

As stated in the press release, Siljanovska-Davkova highlighted Sweden’s support in strengthening country’s democratic capacities.
“We greatly value the fact that Sweden is among the strongest and most vocal supporters of our EU membership. As NATO allies, I look forward to continuing to foster and develop our partnership on regional and global security issues,” she noted.
Among his work priorities, Ambassador Sohlström listed the development of political partnership, business, investment and growth in both countries, as well as the strengthening of already strong mutual ties, encouraged, as he said, by the highly valued Macedonian diaspora in Sweden.

During the meeting held after the ceremony of presenting credentials, the President and the Ambassador exchanged views and insights regarding the security situation in the broader region, in light of the war in Ukraine, and reiterated the commitment of both countries to a durable and sustainable peace.
In regard to country’s aspirations for EU membership, Siljanovska-Davkova pointed out the necessity of taking a step forward in the country’s accession process through respect for and commitment to the principles on which the Union itself rests. The excellent interparliamentary cooperation was also welcomed as an important aspect of bilateral relations.

Siljanovska-Davkova wished Ambassador Sohlström success in carrying out his diplomatic mission, expressing readiness to provide support in his work.
