President Siljanovska Davkova meets Japanese Ambassador Kawahara

Skopje, 11 September 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Thursday with Ambassador of Japan, Setsuko Kawahara, who handed over an Independence Day greeting from Emperor Naruhito.

President Siljanovska Davkova said the greeting is an expression of the long-standing friendship and respect between the two countries, the President's Office said in a press release.

Ambassador Kawahara briefed President Siljanovska Davkova on North Macedonia's participation at Expo 2025 Osaka, highlighting the Independence Day programme, including opera singers Ana and Igor Durlovski, jazz guitarist Vladimir Vasilevski-Chetkar and Kiril Dzhajkovski and his band, who promoted the Macedonian culture, tradition and art in the best possible way.

Interlocutors agreed that the excellent attendance of the Macedonian expo pavilion is a proof of the country's potential as a tourism destination with rich cultural, historic and natural heritage.

Reaffirming the importance of cultural diplomacy, Siljanovska Davkova expressed satisfaction from the attention that the exhibit dedicated to Japanese architect Kenzō Tange has attracted.

The President also thanked the Ambassador for Japan's support and various donations, while voicing readiness for further building of friendly ties and cooperation within international organizations.

On global developments, interlocutors agreed on the need for urgent and deep reforms in the United Nations, for the purpose of strengthening multilateralism and management of real global challenges, reads the press release.
