PM: Solution on curbing rising food prices to be presented soon
- “We’ve consulted experts, we’ve been monitoring retailors, producers, distributors and the chains of stores. It is a serious process and I believe we’ll present a solution soon,” the prime minister stated.
Skopje, 17 June 2025 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday that a solution is due to be proposed soon to curb rising prices of foodstuffs.
Speaking to members of the media in Bitola, Mickoski fell short of elaborating more on the solution saying the situation is being monitored and authorities have been focused on finding a solution.
“We’ve consulted experts, we’ve been monitoring retailors, producers, distributors and the chains of stores. It is a serious process and I believe we’ll present a solution soon,” the prime minister stated.
Speaking to reporters this past weekend, Economy Minister Besar Durmishi said there are no drastic increases in the prices of basic food products in the country. He said market inspectorates are monitoring the situation on the ground.
According to Durmishi, throughout May, the State Market Inspectorate monitored prices in supermarkets, distributors, and producers to determine if there were any price hikes, especially of basic food products, after the end of government price measures on April 30.
On February 20, the Government introduced a measure limiting margins for 100 groups of products and capping the prices of eight products which remained in place until April 30.
