Peace Corps: 50 new US volunteers arrive in Skopje
- A new group of Peace Corps volunteers arrived Tuesday in North Macedonia to teach English, exchange experiences and perform community service in schools, institutions and organizations nationwide.
Skopje, 24 September 2025 (MIA) - A new group of Peace Corps volunteers arrived Tuesday in North Macedonia to teach English, exchange experiences and perform community service in schools, institutions and organizations nationwide.
Peace Corps Country Director David Reside welcomed the volunteers at Skopje International Airport. "The Peace Corps welcomes the arrival of 50 Americans in the country, the 28th group of Peace Corps volunteers to serve in North Macedonia," Reside is quoted as saying in a Peace Corps press release.
He said the group was one of the largest to have arrived in the country in the past 30 years.
The new volunteers will go through 11 weeks of language classes and cultural training before being deployed to municipalities actross the country in December.
During their two-year stay, the Peace Corps volunteers will be giving English language classes in schools and helping non-governmental organizations and municipalities implement inclusive education and community development programs.
According to the release, the Peace Corps has excellent cooperation with local and national partners and implements its programs in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Local Self-Government.
"The Peace Corps is grateful for the cooperation with the government and our partners, helping us support almost 940 volunteers since 1996," Reside said. mr/
