Parties and candidates heat up campaign ahead of Sunday's local elections

Skopje, 15 October 2025 (MIA) – There are three days left until the election silence ahead of the October 19 local elections. Political parties, coalitions and independent candidates are resuming Wednesday to present their programs and their candidates running for mayors. Rallies will be held today in several municipalities in the country.

The VMRO-DPMNE-led ciliation will hold rallies and meetings with voters in Probishtip, Makedonska Kamenica, Pehchevo, Berovo and Delchevo.

VMRO-DPMNE’s candidate for Skopje mayor, Orce Gjorgjievski will hold a news conference in his election campaign HQ in downtown Skopje.

The SDSM-led coalition will hold rallies in Centar Zhupa, Debar, Gostivar and Mavrovo Rostushe.

SDSM’s candidate for Skopje major, Kaja Shukova, will speak to members of the media in Skopje’s Radishani.

Levica representatives will hold meetings with voters in Radovish and Strumica to present its candidates for municipal councillors.

Visar Ademi, an independent candidate running for mayor of Gostivar, will present his “Five Promises for Gostivar” – a concrete plan for eradicating corruption in the municipality, cleaning of waste and addressing of the issue with street dogs as well as for reviving the economy.

In the midst of the election campaign, the Chamber of Commerce of North West Macedonia will meet today with the independent candidate for Struga mayor, Mendi Qyra. Traditionally, the Chamber of Commerce of North West Macedonia meets with political figures to present its platform for local economic development to party leaders and mayoral candidates in order to put forward the priorities of the business community. 

The election campaign ends on October 17 at midnight, marking the start of the election silence ahead of Sunday’s local elections.
