Skopje, 28 May 2025 (MIA) - Parliament verified Wednesday the resignation of Alliance for Albanians’ MP Salim Sulejmani and instructed the State Election Commission (SEC) to notify the legislative house about the candidate that will take over his seat.
Deputy Speaker Vesna Bendevska said Sulejmani did not notify Parliament of his desire to elaborate his resignation.
Sulejmani resigned from all positions in the Alliance for Albanians on May 18 as well as his position as Member of Parliament, citing moral, professional and political responsibility.
He criticized AA faction leader Arben Taravari’s “closer ties with DUI” calling it “a betrayal of what was promised and violation of principles”.
“I can’t be a part of a group that reaches compromises with people listed in international blacklists,” Sulejmani said.
The Vlen coalition, which Taravari’s AA broke with in April, is set to benefit from Sulejmani’s resignation, since he is expected to be replaced by Valbona Adili Emini, a member of the Besa Movement which is a part of Vlen. This will raise Vlen’s number of seats in Parliament to 10.
