Skopje, 14 May 2025 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated that a clear position regarding the candidate to be supported for the new Governor of the National Bank will be determined by the end of the week. He also said that the appointment will take place during a plenary session of the Parliament on May 20.

As he stressed on Wednesday, one of the key conditions for receiving support from VMRO-DPMNE and the Government is a strong commitment to maintaining the denar’s fixed exchange rate.

The five-year term of the current Governor Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska, who took office on May 22, 2018, expires on May 21. Prime Minister Mickoski assures that the deadline will be met.

“We already had discussions with the President on this topic on Monday. I expect them to continue, and by the end of the week a clear position will be reached. I expect Parliament to be informed on Monday, and a session will be held on May 20. I spoke with the Parliament Speaker about adding the item to the agenda for May 20, so the deadline will be respected,” Mickoski said in response to a journalist’s question during an event in the Aerodrom municipality.

Mickoski noted that his personal preference is irrelevant, stressing that all candidates are exceptionally experienced and that he is confident they will maintain macroeconomic stability.
