PACE closes post-monitoring dialogue with North Macedonia - important institutional recognition of country's progress

Skopje, 29 January 2026 (MIA) - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) decided on Thursday to close the post-monitoring dialogue with North Macedonia, a process opened in 2000, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski.

According to Mucunski, the decision is an important institutional recognition of the country's progress and commitment to the principles and standards of the Council of Europe, as well as a clear validation of the progress achieved in the areas of democracy, the rule of law, protection of human rights and relations with neighbouring countries.

The Minister pointed out that special commendation for ensuring the successful completion of this long-standing process goes to the Macedonian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, led by MPs Marija Petrushevska and Ivanka Vasilevska, as well as the Permanent Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the Council of Europe, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.

The decision, Mucunski noted, represents a major milestone that underscores the steadfast commitment, professionalism and effectiveness of Macedonian diplomacy in promoting and protecting fundamental European values.
