Number of employees in economic zones to drop by 30 percent by year-end, says opposition leader

Skopje, 13 November 2025 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche criticized Thursday the Government over its economic policies, noting reports of an increasing number of dismissals in foreign companies operating in economic zones.

"The Government and VMRO-DPMNE not only failed to bring in new foreign investments, they are even shutting down those that have been operating in the country for years. We already heard that two large companies - Aptiv and Dura Automotive Systems - will close their facilities. Aptiv, operating since 2016 and employing 500 people, is set to shut down its operations, while Dura Automotive Systems will stop its new investment," Filipche told a press conference.

According to him, this negative trend would lead to a drop in the number of employees in the foreign companies operating in economic zones by about 30 percent.

"This is a huge number and an enormous loss of jobs. If we add to this the dozens of domestic textile companies that have been shutting down in recent months, then the number of people who face uncertainty is in the thousands," said Filipche.

The SDSM leader said the country is experiencing a dramatic economic downfall.

"After adorning himself with borrowed plumes, i.e. investments we brought in, the reality has now kicked in. The number of foreign investments is down three-fold. Instead of stability, development and economic growth, we are seeing a downfall and indifference on the part of the authorities," said Filipche.
