'No security concerns', President assures public

Skopje, 2 March 2026 (MIA) - The situation is stable and safe based on reports coming from the intelligence and national security agencies, the ministries of interior and defense, and the Army General Staff, said President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova after a session of the Security Council, held in light of the Middle East developments late on Sunday.

"We are currently not exposed to instability or threat to the security in the country and the region. The early warning system is in place as a result of coordination among all authorities. Institutions are monitoring the situation, making the proper analyses, mutually coordinating and communicating, and that is why I believe this assessment of the stability and security is relevant," President Siljanovska Davkova told reporters.

She added that country's institutions are also coordinating with regional counterparts on sharing information.

"In such situations, we are assessing not only the possible impact on the security but the economy and energy resources as well. In this regard, the law provides that oil reserves must be available for a period of 40-90 days, a requirement that is met. From what I heard during the meeting, I firmly believe there is nothing to worry about at this time. Of course, we are continually monitoring developments and will respond accordingly," said Siljanovska Davkova.

The President added that the seat of the Jewish Community and the Holocaust Memorial Center in Skopje are also under protection due to possible threats to synagogues and other facilities across the globe.

The Security Council session was attended by all of its members, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski through an online call due to his visit to the United States. The FM provided information on the rising number of Macedonian nationals currently staying in the Middle East, who should report to the country's diplomatic-consular offices so they are considered for possible evacuations.

"A crisis HQ has been set up within the ministry and it is in continued communication with all citizens. Of course, people are concerned because the skies are closed. The ministry is active in finding the best ways to bring as many people as possible safely home," said Siljanovska Davkova.
