Skopje, 15 September 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Izet Mexhiti decided to close the non-standard waste landfill in Nikushtak, Lipkovo municipality, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said Monday evening.

“This measure was adopted to protect the environment, life and citizens’ health, as the existing municipal waste disposal site in Nikushtak does not meet the environmental standards,” Mexhiti’s decision states.

The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning explains that the decision was made in accordance with the Law on State Administration and the Law on Environment, respecting the principle of a high level of protection and prevention of harmful consequences, and that the order takes effect immediately.

At a press briefing today, Mexhiti announced that inspections have been ordered for all landfills and unregistered waste locations across the country.
