Nikoloski in Zagreb: Macedonia and Croatia set example for regional cooperation; strong support requested for transporters

Skopje, 29 January 2026 (MIA) - At their meeting in Zagreb, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski and Marijana Petir, Member of the Croatian Parliament, reaffirmed strong support for Macedonia’s EU integration path and for deepening political and economic ties between Macedonia and Croatia.

As reported by his office, Deputy Prime Minister Nikoloski during the meetings, raised the issue affecting transporters from the country and the region and sought strong support from Croatia in addressing difficulties related to their operations within the Schengen area.

He noted that the problem is of regional importance and that its prompt resolution would help ensure regional economic stability and facilitate the faster movement of goods and services toward European markets.

During the working visit to the Croatian Parliament, Nikoloski met with Andro Krstulović Opara, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

“Good relations between the two countries serve as an example of regional cooperation based on friendship, mutual support and a vision for a European perspective. Such a role in the region has a significant impact on advancing regional stability, economic development and integration,” the Ministry of Transport said in a press release.

During the meetings, Nikoloski underscored the reforms implemented by the government as part of the European integration process and noted that Croatia’s experience significantly contributes to strengthening the country’s institutional capacity.

“With regard to political cooperation, bilateral relations are based on open dialogue and mutual support. As two partner countries and members of NATO, they share responsibility for maintaining stability in the region and responding to modern security challenges,” the press release reads.

During his working visit to Zagreb, Deputy Prime Minister Nikoloski met with HDZ Secretary General Krunoslav Katičić, reaffirming good bilateral relations and discussing prospects for the country and the region.
