New ministers to be elected after session on 2026 budget, says Speaker

Skopje, 2 December 2025 (MIA) - The Parliament session on the dismissal of Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani and the election of new ministers will most probably take place after the completion of the session on the 2026 Budget, namely between December 15 and 18, or maybe even earlier, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi told a press briefing on Tuesday.

The Government has proposed Muhamed Hoxha for Minister of Environment and Physical Planning and Bekim Sali for Minister of European Affairs.

The five-day plenary session on the 2026 Budget is scheduled to start on December 9.

On the same day, the Standing Inquiry Committee for protection of the citizens' rights and liberties will hold a session dedicated to the Kochani nightclub fire, including parents and close ones of the victims. At yesterday's coordination meeting, Spaker Gashi asked Levica whip Borislav Krmov to urge Committee chairman and Levica leader Dimitar Apasiev to postpone the session for another day, so that he (Gashi), Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and other MPs can attend it, considering the overlap with the Budget session.

Gashi also asked party whips to consider merging the session of the Standing Inquiry Committee related to Kochani with the ones focusing on previous tragedies - Tetovo modular hospital, Durmo Turs and Laskarci. He was assured by some whips that the committee sessions would not interfere with the Kochani case trial but focus on seeking political responsibility.

In addition, lawmaker Ziadin Sela of the Alliance of Albanians has informed Speaker Gashi he would not continue as part of the European Front, whereas MP Ilir Demiri from the same party would act as an independent.
