New draft Law on Health Care posted on ENER for public feedback

Skopje, 20 February 2026 (MIA) — The Ministry of Health has drafted amendments to the Law on Health Care and published the bill on the ENER National Electronic Register of Regulations for public feedback, health authorities said Friday.

According to the Ministry of Health in a press release, Minister of Health Azir Aliu said all feedback would be considered before the bill gets enacted into law.

"We are guided by the principles of transparency and accountability and all constructive comments, opinions and suggestions will be taken into account in the final version of the new draft Law on Health Care," Minister Aliu is quoted as saying in the release.

The amendments include changes to medical workers hiring and retirement procedures as well as changes in the status of public health care institution management.

Another important change is prioritizing the hiring of medical school graduates with the highest ranking.

Also, retired physicians with rare, highly specialized expertise will be allowed to work past the age of 67 under contracts while retaining their pension rights.

"Their hiring will be based on the consent of the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Fund," Aliu said. mr/
