Skopje, 12 July 2025 (MIA) - The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that following Friday's incident in the Municipality of Chair, based on operational information and a security assessment prepared by the National Security Agency (NSA), a decision has been made to implement round-the-clock security protocols for the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Danela Arsovska.
"The Mayor will be contacted by the competent services today in order to coordinate her activities in accordance with personal protection measures. The Ministry of Interior remains committed to its basic mission to ensure security and protection for all citizens of Macedonia, regardless of their social or institutional status. The Ministry acts in accordance with its legal competences, thoroughly and professionally, in each individual case," reads the press release.
As regards the latest events related to Arsovska, the MoI points out that despite the fact she has repeatedly publicly communicated about threats via social networks, the institution acts on all information received, either ex officio or upon official report, in line with the law and established procedures.
The Ministry notes that following Friday's incident in the Municipality of Chair, Arsovska went to the police station after receiving medical attention, and the people who were accused of attacking her were also immediately detained.
"However, the Mayor refused to sign the police report and left the premises of the police station. She again addressed the public exclusively via social networks, without informing the competent institutions in an appropriate manner. In the meantime, the Ministry of Interior today filed criminal charges against two people identified by the initials S. Lj. and S. Lj. under Article 386, paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code, in relation to yesterday's incident of the attack on Mayor Arsovska. Taking into account all of the above, the Ministry of Interior strongly rejects all accusations that it does not act in cases related to Arsovska. On the contrary, the MoI acts professionally in each individual case, with full institutional transparency and within the legal authority," the press release reads.
Given the security assessment made by the NSA, it adds, Mayor Arsovska, as a holder of public office, will have 24-hour police protection, in order to ensure her personal safety and unhindered performance of her duties.
The Ministry once again appeals to all public officials to cooperate with the institutions of the system and not to use the public or the media as the only channel to report potential threats, but contact the competent authorities first, in order to ensure timely and efficient action.
