Misajlovski: We're investing in defence and army for safety and security of the country

Skopje, 29 September 2025 (MIA) – Defence Minister Vlado Misajlovski speaking Monday in a meeting of the Working Committee on implementing the National Development Strategy 2024-2044 said the construction of “a safe, secure and resilient society amid global challenges is top priority for us.”

Misajlovski spoke about the development of a defence system and defence investments aimed at accelerated modernization of the Macedonian Army, said the Defence Ministry.

“In the latest NATO summit, all of the 32 member countries unanimously endorsed a decision on reinforcing defence. In the next 10 years, by 2035, investments in defence will reach 3.5 percent of the GDP and an additional investment of 1.5 percent of GDP in activities and defence-related projects, including infrastructure, crisis management, cyber security,” said the Minister.  

Efforts are already being made on projections to increase defence spending, meaning more investments in the defence sector, Misajlovski added.

As regards strategic documents, Minister Misajlovski said a national security strategy is in the works, which is the basis to upgrade other strategic documents, including the defence strategy and defence capability plans.

Defence, he noted, is not an isolated sector, it is wider system of social resilience.

“The Minister added that it is of key importance to include all relevant factors in addressing today’s threats, including the institutions as well as the academic community, private sector, non-governmental organizations, media outlets, and to bolster regional cooperation and cooperation within NATO and EU context,” said the MoD.

The deputy prime minister in charge of political system, Ljupcho Dimovski, the government’s secretary general, Igor Janushev, UNDP representatives, professors from the State University in Arizona as well as officials of institutions, local self-governments, the civil and business sector were in also in attendance.
