Minister Murtezani meets European Court of Auditors representatives

Skopje, 16 June 2025 (MIA) - Coordination in the transport sector within the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), as well as the broader institutional and operational framework for implementing projects supported through this instrument, were the main topics at today’s meeting of representatives of the European Court of Auditors, Bertrand Tanguy and Erik Kotlarik, with the Minister of European Affairs and national IPA coordinator, Orhan Murtezani, the Ministry of European Affairs reported.

Murtezani, at the meeting, underscored the importance of the Investment Framework as a strategic mechanism that enables investment in key sectors such as transport, energy, environment, healthcare, and education, but also as a tool that will allow the use of EU funds to be allocated following the implementation of reforms under the Reform Agenda 2024–2027 and the Reform and Growth Facility.

The discussions highlighted the need for further simplification of procedures, increased transparency and clarity regarding the roles of international financial institutions, as well as strengthening the capacity of the National IPA Coordinator (NIPAC) office, particularly in the areas of monitoring and coordination.

The press release adds that during the meeting, it was noted that timely project readiness and alignment with reform priorities will be essential for the successful utilization of available funds by the end of 2027.

Murtezani reaffirmed the government's commitment to effectively managing investments supported by the Western Balkans Investment Framework, a joint initiative of the European Commission, bilateral donors, and international financial institutions.

He pointed out that North Macedonia continues to be a constructive partner in regional cooperation and EU integration efforts, committed to establishing a clear and strategic framework for the use of EU funds.

The meeting with Orhan Murtezani, Minister of European Affairs and National IPA Coordinator, was the first of several the audit team will conduct this week with key institutions as part of their country mission, reads the press release.
