Mickoski: Sports will remain one of our top priorities

Skopje, 4 July 2026 (MIA) — The development of sports will remain a top priority for the government in the near future, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Saturday, adding that work was underway at several locations nationwide on various sports facilities.

"We are working on several projects across the country, including sports centers, swimming pools, gymnasiums and playgrounds. One European-standard facility, the Rasadnik sports arena in Skopje, has already opened and is ready for athletes to use," Mickoski told reporters following a cornerstone-laying ceremony for a new indoor swimming pool at Aco Shopov Elementary in the Municipality of Butel.

According to the prime minister, tens of millions of euros are being directly invested in infrastructure and the government will continue to support sports clubs and athletes.

"By establishing the Ministry of Sports and consolidating the sector, we have made sure that sports remain one of our highest priorities moving forward as we work to finish what we started," Mickoski said.

The PM said the new swimming pool will significantly improve the locals’ quality of life.

"I feel that through these projects, we are steadily securing better living conditions for citizens in every municipality across the country,” Mickoski said. mr/
