Skopje, 20 August 2026 (MIA) - The citizens are not asking for elections but reforms. If the opposition thinks snap elections are necessary, we will respond to that request positively and, of course, we will beat them, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski in answer to a journalist’s question Thursday.

“The citizens do not want elections. The citizens want reforms and continuity in the processes led by this Government. That is why I compared the performance of this Government to the previous one as three to one. We, as a coalition, have received a mandate from the citizens to lead the Government for four years. However, I will confirm what I said yesterday – if the opposition thinks snap elections are necessary, of course, we won’t sit by like cowards, but we will respond to that request positively and, of course, we will beat them,” Mickoski told journalists ahead of the Ambassadorial Council in Skopje.

In a TV interview on Wednesday night, Mickoski said if the opposition seeks early parliamentary elections, they are ready to go to the polls at any time and win. Mickoski said his position is clear, and the government he leads has been given a four-year mandate.
