Mickoski: Konrad Adenauer Foundation is ambassador of democratic idea

Skopje, 27 My 2025 (MIA) - The Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) is an ambassador of the democratic idea. It is a testament to the fact that values can travel across borders, across generations and difficulties and take root in stability, dialogue and hope, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said on Tuesday.

Addressing a reception on the 25th anniversary of active engagement of KAS in the country, Mickoski mentioned the words of German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, according to whom history is not shaped by words, but deeds, and deeds begin with vision and courage.

"Peace is not only the absence of war but the presence of justice, stability and human dignity. This thought is more relevant today than ever in a world where democracy is under pressure, where new walls are being raised, and old values are being questioned. We need institutions that will remain strong, we need alliances that are not based on interest but on ideals, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is just such an ally," Mickoski pointed out.

According to him, ever since our society was facing transition, economic and political uncertainty, the Foundation has been present with training, public debates, support for civil society organizations, and education of young people.

"It acted with respect, understanding and willingness to build and listen. It is in such difficult times that true friendship is built. Our path to democracy was not a straight line, we had mistakes and disappointments, but we always had partners who believe in our capacity for progress. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation believed in us even when others hesitated. It believed that we could become part of the European family, that the young people here deserve a future, and that is why today when we talk about European integration, the rule of law, the fight against corruption and freedom of the media, we know that behind those processes there are not only political declarations, but years of investment, cooperation and vision," said Mickoski.

Official Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Daniel Braun, also addressed the reception, noting that the Foundation has worked in recent years to support European integration and democratic society in North Macedonia.

"I believe that in North Macedonia we have managed to build mutual respect, be honest and constructive with everyone, including those who hold different views from ours. Although we are not diplomats, we are ambassadors of the country and give it visibility," Braun said.

Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, top government officials and representatives of the diplomatic corps also attend the reception taking place at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence.
