Skopje, 28 May 2026 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said that the country is facing what he described as a historically largest energy crisis and an epic crisis in the past 50 years. Speaking at a Q&A session in Parliament on Thursday, Mickoski stressed that despite the severity of the situation, the government has avoided emotional press conferences or complaints about the difficulties it is facing. He added that, although the situation is challenging, the government has succeeded in creating a model that currently delivers the best results in the region.

Mickoski said that the country has sufficient reserves of oil and petroleum derivatives, ensuring stability of supply. He also noted that, according to the International Monetary Fund, the country is among the top three in Europe in terms of applied measures relative to GDP. Mickoski further referred to fuel prices in the country, comparing them with those in neighboring states, emphasizing their relative competitiveness.

Mickoski said the government has developed an economic model based on economies of scale, which includes tax reductions and increased consumption. He noted that this approach creates a clear regional difference, adding that many consumers now travel to the country to purchase fuel. He was responding to a question from MP Petar Markov.
