Mickoski: Gov’t gave Chief Prosecutor Kocevski a chance before dismissal motion

Skopje, 27 February 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Thursday the Government gave Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski a chance before it moved to initiate a motion for his dismissal, but, the PM said, all Kocevski did instead is confront those who think differently in the prosecution and act as the “last defender” of the previous government.

“We said we would leave some room, but aside from internal confrontations with those who think differently within the prosecution, we didn’t see anything else. Everything else was excuses,” Mickoski said at a Q&A session in Parliament.

The PM noted the Government’s motion for Kocevski’s dismissal, which he said would be placed on Parliament’s agenda and accused some MPs of defending Kocevski instead of “siding with the people”.

“Since the public trust in the prosecution isn’t higher than 2-3 percent, then the question is who do they represent when they are defending Kocevski,” Mickoski said.

The Prime Minister said “rule of law” was the goal of the motion to dismiss Kocevski and pointed to the reports from the European Commission in which, he said, the main criticism is about the rule of law and the implementation of reforms in the judiciary.
