Skopje, 28 July 2025 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Monday he expects good news from Washington for the Macedonian companies exporting goods in the United States when asked about what kind of effects the trade deal reached by the EU and the United States may produce.
“Yesterday, the European Union and the United States reached a joint statement and we welcome it. Since a majority of our production capacities are exporting goods to the US through companies in the EU, if the EU is satisfied with this agreement, then we too are satisfied” Mickoski told reporters.
He said he expects the process of tariffs negotiations with the US to be completed this week mentioning that three rounds of negotiations have been already held.
“We’d already signed such joint statement and we’re satisfied. But we expect the process to be completed this week. There have already been three rounds of negotiations with the last one held on Friday with officials from the Trump administration. What I can announce is that we are far ahead from the European countries and I expect some good news for the Macedonian citizens, for the Macedonian companies exporting goods in the United States. Let’s wait for Washington to officially announce the news,” Mickoski said speaking to members of the media.
Two weeks ago, the prime minister revealed Macedonia is in the midst of negotiations involving the 30-percent tariffs. US President Donald Trump announced they will enter into force on August 1.
The European Union and the United States have reached an agreement to settle a trade dispute over tariff hikes, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday, dpa reported.
