Skopje, 9 May 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has extended greetings to the public on May 9 - Europe Day.
"Today we celebrate peace, unity and the common values that unite us as European nations. May it be a reminder that we can build a better future for all through dialogue, solidarity and respect for diversity. For Macedonia, Europe Day is not just a symbol, it is also an incentive for an even stronger commitment to European values, reforms and progress. Our path to the European Union is a path of dignity, work and hope. Macedonia belongs to Europe, with its identity, culture and vision for the future! United in diversity, strong in togetherness," PM Mickoski said in a Facebook post on Friday.
But at the same time, Mickoski added, let us not forget the enormous sacrifice that we as a people made in the fight against fascism.
"The victory over fascism was also the result of the brilliant self-sacrifice of thousands of Macedonian partisans who laid down their lives for today's freedom and were the heirs of the Ilinden flame for Macedonia. Metodija Andonov Chento, Petre Piruze Majski, Mihajlo Apostolski, Pavel Shatev, Mirche Acev, Orce Nikolov, Strasho Pindzhur, Hristijan Todorovski - Karposh, Ibe Palikukja, Elpida Karamandi, Kuzman Josifovski - Pitu and a host of other great names have become part of our statehood today. We bow before their work with great respect and attention. Therefore, the victory over fascism is also our right, and respect for it is our duty," PM Mickoski said in his greeting.
