Skopje, 29 July 2026 (MIA) - We are committed to reforms and we'll do everything that is up to us, while the European Commission will judge if we really deserve to join the European Union based on delivery, since they are the ones saying this is a merit-based process, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Wednesday.

PM Mickoski said it was confirmed at today's meeting with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood in the European Commission, that North Macedonia is the only country working on reforms set for implementation by December 2026.

"We discussed the reforms set to be implemented by December, and we are the only country in the region working on them, at least according to what they said. We remain committed to their delivery. In other words, we will do everything that is up to us. We will not sign capitulations or blank sheets of paper as the previous authorities did without delivering anything at home. Therefore, we will do everything related to the reforms and our homework and then leave it to the people in Brussels and the European Commission to judge if we deserve to join the European Union based on delivery. I am always told at meetings that this is a merit-based process, namely, the more you deliver, the more you get. We will try to get what we deserve through delivery of reforms, but the rest is up to them," Mickoski told reporters.
