Mickoski at opening of Plazma Youth Sports Games: Sport is the future of Macedonia

Skopje, 8 May 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, speaking at the launch of the first season of the Plazma Youth Sports Games on Macedonian square in Skopje, said sport is the future of Macedonia and encouraged young people to “play sports, make friends and learn.” He added that the Government will continue supporting sports and young people.
The event brings together over 27,000 children nationwide, with competitions at local, regional and national level. The most successful athletes will qualify for the international final in Split, where they will compete with peers from across the region.

Minister of Sport Borko Ristovski added that the Games are not only a competition, but also an opportunity for every child to experience what it means to be part of a team.
“Sport is not a privilege, sport is a right for every child,” he said, emphasizing that the state is investing in youth, infrastructure and local institutions in order to build healthy generations.
The opening ceremony was marked by the lighting of the flame on the square.
