MFAFT: Claims of secret agreement or negotiations 'yet another SDSM fabrication'

Skopje, 5 August 2026 (MIA) - Today's press conference by SDSM is yet another attempt to create hysteria and spread disinformation. Instead of taking responsibility and apologizing for the damage it inflicted on the national and foreign policy positions, SDSM is spreading lies. Claims of a secret agreement or secret negotiations are yet another in the series of fabrications that the opposition party has been producing, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT) on Wednesday.

The reaction comes after SDSM official Andrej Zhernovski held a press conference earlier today, at which he claimed that the Government is setting the terrain for acceptance of the French proposal, noting that the party's sources from Brussels pojnt that the incumbent authorities have already agreed on this.

MFAFT said in a press release that institutions are in regular communication with the European Union member-states, European institutions, Bulgaria and other international partners, noting that the discussions are transparent and the Government's position has been clear and reaffirmed on numerous occasions.

There are no concessions from the national interests, identity, language and history. Full-fledged EU membership remains the Government's strategic commitment and its ultimate goal. Here lies the essential difference between this Government and SDSM. In the past, agreements and compromises were accepted far from the public's eyes and at the detriment of national positions. The current foreign policy is responsible, principled, and in line with the national interests and the people's will. Transparency and consistent protection of the national interests are the key differences between the incumbent and the former executive, reads the press release.

It adds that SDSM wants to court certain political structures in the neighborhood more than defend the interests of its own country and its own people.
