Skopje, 14 September 2025 (MIA) - The efforts to put out the fire in a waste recycling warehouse in Trubarevo lasted for more than 15 hours. The fire has been fully extinguished and its spreading has been prevented. An accreddited laboratory is measuring the air quality now and in the coming days, said First Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti on Sunday.
Deputy PM Mexhiti noted that the facility of company "F Grupacija" in Trubarevo holds a valid waste management license issued by the Ministry by 2031.
"We immediately hired accredited laboratory Euromak Kontrol and a 24-hour air quality measurement device has already been set up. The environmental laboratory within the Ministry also made the required measurements, as did the Army's nuclear, biological and chemical protection unit," said Mexhiti.
In addition, the accredited environmental lab from the Shtip-based university would also conduct complementary measurements in the coming week by setting up their device as well.
"The administrative inspection oversight of the legal entity has begun, after which soil samples will be taken, while an expertise is to determine the degree of the environmental pollution. State institutions will continue their work until all aspects of this case are cleared up. We will be fully transparent, your safety is our priority," said Mexhiti.
He added this is the third fire on a waste site within a short period of time, right after the fires in the Vardarishte and Drisla landfills, "an alarm that requires serious institutional mobilization."
On the air quality measurements, the Deputy PM said they will be available today and the citizens will be informed in a timely and detailed way.
