Brussels, 24 October 2025 (MIA) – The European Union welcomes the fact that the local elections in North Macedonia were competitive and that fundamental freedoms were largely respected, despite being held in a highly polarized political environment and with some procedural shortcomings, European Commission spokesperson for enlargement Guillaume Mercier told MIA.
“EU acknowledged the preliminary findings and conclusions of the international election observation mission for North Macedonia’s local elections on 19 October 2025,” Mercier said.
According to him, the EU encourages the country to address all the recommendations of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), including those related to amendments to the Electoral Code.
