Paris, 25 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Iran to "engage in good faith in negotiations" to pave the way for de-escalation in the conflict involving the United States and Israel, after speaking with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian.
In a post on X late on Tuesday, Macron said talks should establish a framework "that addresses the expectations of the international community regarding Iran's nuclear and ballistic programme as well as its activities destabilizing the region."
He also stressed the "absolute necessity" of ending "unacceptable attacks" on countries in the region, protecting energy and civilian infrastructure and restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Macron also urged Iran to allow, as soon as possible, the return of two French nationals who have been detained in the country for an extended period.
It is the third time since the start of the conflict that Macron has reached out to Pezeshkian to push for de-escalation and a diplomatic solution.
