Skopje, 31 May 2026 (MIA) - The jubilee marking “80 years since the settlement of Macedonians in Vojvodina” is an important moment from both a historical and cultural perspective, said Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov, who was part of the Macedonian government delegation led by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski at the ceremony in Novi Sad.

Ljutkov said the anniversary is a significant milestone, emphasizing that the Macedonian community in Serbia plays an important role in social development.

“This is an important moment and jubilee, both from a historical and cultural perspective,” he said.

He stressed that Macedonians in Vojvodina continuously contribute to Serbia’s multicultural society.

“Macedonians here contribute greatly to the multicultural development of Serbia and strive to maintain continuity in terms of the Macedonian language, culture and traditions, which is especially important for us as Macedonians,” Ljutkov said.

He said that the presence of the prime ministers of both countries, Hristijan Mickoski and Đuro Macut, further confirms the close cooperation and friendship between North Macedonia and Serbia.

Ljutkov noted that cooperation in culture continues to develop through numerous meetings and projects, and that work is currently underway on a National Strategy for Minorities for the 2025–2030 period, in which culture will have a significant place.

He also referred to the opening of the Cultural and Information Centre in Belgrade, established to provide long-term support to the Macedonian minority through cultural activities.

Within the framework of the anniversary, Novi Sad is hosting a series of cultural events with participation from Macedonian institutions, the Tanec ensemble, Andrijana Janevska, and children’s choirs from local schools.
