Judicial Council's annual report to be discussed in Parliament

Skopje, 3 June 2025 (MIA) – The 2024 Annual Work Report of the Judicial Council of the Republic of North Macedonia will be discussed Tuesday in Parliament at its 51st session.

The report, posted on the assembly’s website, says that the Council throughout 2024 as part of 39 sessions elected judges and court presidents, elected and dismissed jurors, verified the termination of judges’ terms, identified unprofessional conduct in court by ordering disciplinary measures, etc.

“The EU Peer Review Mission in 2024 prepared a report on the functioning of the Judicial Council of the Republic of North Macedonia, which includes long-term, middle-term and short-term recommendations. The short-term recommendations, under the competence of the Council, started implementing in 2024. Throughout 2024, activities noted in the Action Plan for implementation of the EU’s recommendations to the Judicial Council are considered priority. At the same time, having in mind the EU Peer Review Mission Report recommendations, the Judicial Council in the coming period will continue its efforts to protect the integrity, independence and professionalism of judges and of the institutions all the while fending off any internal or external influence in its works,” said the Report. 

A priority of the Judicial Council in 2025, adds the report, will be to further implement the recommendations noted in the Peer Review Mission Report in order to improve the selection procedure, promotion and accountability of judges/court presidents and members of the Council, as well as to improve transparency, communication and resource management in the Council. 

“In this regard, the Council pledges it will continue with utmost efforts allowing consistent application in accordance with legal provisions, monitoring the situation in the judiciary and providing new proposals for improving the situation, monitoring the work of judges and court presidents, as well as the courts themselves, taking actions within its competences in detecting corrupt acts in the judiciary, and in this regard, advocating for the implementation of the adopted Program and Action Plan for the Prevention and Monitoring of Corruption in the Judiciary 2022-2025,” said the document.
