Skopje, 30 October 2025 (MIA) - During his working visit to the Kichevo Police Department, the Director of the Public Security Bureau, Aleksandar Janev, held a meeting Thursday with the heads of the Ohrid Police Department and the Regional Border Affairs Center – West.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the discussions focused on recent events linked to the participation of Kichevo police officers in the Gostivar jewelry robbery case and on the overall security situation, especially in areas where the second round of local elections will take place.
Janev thanked all police officers for carrying out their duties every day with integrity, commitment, and professionalism, urging them to keep acting with honesty, responsibility, and impartiality as an essential element in upholding public security and citizens’ confidence in the institutions.

He made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for any illegal or improper conduct. He emphasized that anyone who attempts to violate the law, undermine the integrity of the service, or breach democratic principles, regardless of their role or position, will face a swift, professional, and decisive police response.
Ahead of the second round of local elections, it was emphasized that police officers will be deployed at all polling stations and at potentially high-risk locations. He noted that in this region, as well as along the border area, security measures are being additionally strengthened with modern technical equipment, including aerial monitoring by drones.
“Our mission is clear - to ensure a peaceful, safe, and democratic election process, to protect citizens, their right to vote freely, and the fundamental democratic values,” said Director Janev, adding that the police will take all necessary measures to allow citizens to vote without fear, pressure, or threats.
In conclusion, he emphasized that the police remain a partner of the citizens and one of the main protectors of the state’s security, legal, and democratic values.
