Iran's Pezeshkian: 'We do not seek nuclear weapons'

New York, 24 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated that his country is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday.

"I hereby declare once more before this assembly that Iran has never sought and will never seek to build a nuclear bomb," Pezeshkian told international leaders gathered in New York.

"We do not seek nuclear weapons," he repeated.

Pezeshkian also used his speech to sharply criticize arch-enemy Israel for attacking Iran in June.

He said the attacks, followed by the US military bombings, were a "grave betrayal of diplomacy."

"You all bore witness that this past June my country was subjected to a savage aggression in flagrant contravention of the most elementary principles of international law," Pezeshkian said.

The Iranian president also criticized the move by Germany, France and Britain to reimpose tough UN sanctions in the dispute over Iran's nuclear programme, charging that the Europeans are no longer "trustworthy partners."
