Iran says Israel has attacked state broadcaster in Tehran

Tehran, 16 June 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Israel has attacked the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the broadcaster and other state media reported Monday.

On a video clip from the broadcaster loud explosions could be seen and heard, and a live broadcast was suddenly interrupted. The broadcaster resumed its transmission after a short pause.

No official information was initially provided about casualties and damage.

According to informed sources, dozens of technicians are said to have lost their lives in the attack on Tehran.

The main building of the state broadcaster is located in a densely populated district in the north of the Iranian capital, the residents of which Israel had previously called on to evacuate. Car horns were heard after the attack.

The state media are under government control and disseminate its propaganda.

At the same time, panic is growing in the metropolis: Out of concern for an even greater escalation, many residents have now tried to leave the city, which has 10 million residents, or almost 17 million in the greater metropolitan area.

Shops are hardly open any more, cash machines are often empty or not working, eyewitnesses reported. In some areas, the water supply is interrupted as a result of Israeli attacks. The supply situation is becoming increasingly critical, they report.
