Hamas says it's ready for deal, Israel says it 'utters empty words'
- Palestinian militant organization Hamas has said it is "ready for a comprehensive deal" with Israel for a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
Tel Aviv, 4 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Palestinian militant organization Hamas has said it is "ready for a comprehensive deal" with Israel for a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
On Wednesday evening, Hamas said it was still waiting for a response from Israel on the latest proposal by international mediators for a ceasefire.
Israel's conditions for an agreement include the release of all hostages and the disarmament of Hamas.
Defence Minister Israel Katz said "Hamas continues to deceive and utter empty words."
A statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Hamas announcement was merely "another spin" by the Palestinian organization that contained nothing new.
The war could end immediately on the conditions set by the cabinet, Netanyahu's office said. In addition to the release of all hostages and the disarmament of Hamas, this also includes the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and Israeli security control over the territory.
The organization stated that it was prepared "to enter into a comprehensive deal in which all enemy prisoners held by the resistance will be freed in exchange for an agreed-upon number of Palestinian prisoners held by the occupation." Hamas refers to its hostages as "prisoners."
Hamas also said it would agree to the formation of an "independent, technocratic national administration" for the Gaza Strip. Hamas did not respond to Israel's other demands for an end to the war.
The Israeli Ministry of Defence said that Hamas would soon realize that it has "two options" to choose from: Either it accepts Israel's conditions for ending the war, or Gaza City will end up like Rafah and Beit Hanoun.
Both cities in the Gaza Strip were destroyed by the Israeli military, which is currently preparing to capture Gaza City, the largest settlement in the embattled coastal area that is home to some 1 million. Thousands of reservists were called up on Tuesday.
"We will continue to act against Hamas' main strongholds until its defeat; we are giving them the feeling that they are being persecuted constantly and everywhere," said Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir.
The conflict in Gaza was triggered by Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 were taken hostage.
Israel responded with massive airstrikes and a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip that has led to the deaths of more than 63,700 people, according to figures from the Hamas-controlled health authorities in the territory.
